Color Fun
When we have branding projects, it often requires deciding on what colors will make the brand palette and why. In these instances, we listen to the client’s vision and choose a starting point.

In these examples, the client used words like “spice, zest, flavor, and punch” when describing the vibe of tones they imagined. When thinking about how they described their potential palette, we realized each of those terms are all related to food. We then used images of food that fit into those categories to pull in colors for the palettes. This process is similar (with different imagery for inspiration) but is a good representation of how we help choose brand colors.

For this project, we had a lot of data collection involved, along with organizing that data and deciding what to highlight. As we chose what to showcase, we grouped it by program or service. We designed the report as a template that allows us to update the data points each year, swapping out imagery as needed.

Since their programs run deep and take people down many paths, we used the path you see to guide you around the community to the areas that show specific services. The different areas represent their main programs, with a waysign that indicates that program. This illustration took almost a year to complete. Every program in their agency needed to be involved in and approve the imagery for their section. It truly took a village to create the final version!

The word cloud you see mimics the shape of the Torch Craft Marine logo (also designed by us). We thought using that branded shape as the shell for the words would be a clever connection to their brand. The words were submitted by the attendees who said that these phrases were repeated throughout the five day event, and became a bit of a running joke to them. The colors chosen represent the colors of the four mini jet boats that were in attendance as they pursued splash and speed in Discovery Bay.

Sherwood Apothecary Label
Belle came to us to design a label for her new calming elixir. Foxes, ferns, vines, and Sherwood Forest were our inspiration. As an herbalist, Belle dabbles in the realm of botanical blends that provide alternatives to traditional medicines, all while preserving ancient knowledge about those remedies. We knew with this project that we needed to take an earthy, Zen approach to the design.

The color palette uses tones you would expect to find in a forest. The font we chose reflects an old-timey vibe to capture the essence of ancient wisdom. To stay true to the “magical healing forest” theme Belle wanted, we used various botanicals inspired by the ingredients in her elixir; the flower that wraps around the name is Blue Vervain, the main ingredient in her product. Throughout the design, we kept in mind that the design needed to be detailed enough but also scale down well because the bottle would be just 4 inches tall.

Hughes Excavation Trifold and Postcard
Curtis at Hughes Excavation came to us to create new branded materials after renaming the business, formally E.D. Hughes Excavating. Along with their new website, they needed several printed materials redesigned.
The trifold brochure we designed and created content for, was to be used as a leave-behind in the offices of their partners and supporters. The content we used were snippets from what was created when writing content for their website. We love when a project has a copywriting component so we can reuse and adapt content in various places.

We designed the label to incorporate their logo, chose a color palette to convey it’s organic ingredients, and added the nutrition facts to include all FDA required elements. The container they were going to use was circular and tapered, so it was larger at the top than the bottom. This meant we needed to make the label a special U-shape rather than rectangular. This would allow the label to wrap the width of the container without leaving creases caused by wrapping something with a straight-edge around a circular object.
