Confessions of a business owner: The truth is, sometimes you win and sometimes you learn.

Before our founder started Lamplight Creatives, she had already tried to build a business once before. She co-founded a Los Angeles-based independent magazine that highlighted upcoming performing artists. Depending on the day and the story, she acted as the writer, editor, photographer, marketer, or admin person.

She wore many hats, as most small business owners do.

That venture lasted a couple of years, and after moving on, she knew she would have another opportunity, sometime, somewhere. However, her next opportunity didn’t come until almost a decade later.

But during the time period in between, she knew she would be an entrepreneur again. She knew good ideas didn’t happen overnight, but they would happen in time. She knew her next good idea awaited.

That next idea came as a result of working as a marketing and business development strategist for a community college. She wasn’t looking for a business idea, she recognized the void her idea would eventually fill.

Once she was sure of her idea, she planned her business model and dove into building Lamplight Creatives from the ground up. She left the security of her full-time job and entered down a path full of unknowns. But building any dream comes with sacrifice, and when dreams come true, the rewards outweigh the sacrifices.

So, if you learn anything from this story, we hope it’s this:

Don’t be afraid to learn from your failures. And don’t be afraid to try again until you win. What if you had given up on trying to walk after your first fall? Not have gotten back on that bike? Not tried to tie your shoe again?

Failure is guaranteed in life. Everyone does it. But failure also leads to success, which means you can’t have success without failure. If you want to own your success, then you must own your failures.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.

So, get out of your comfort zone, if only for a little bit, and learn to do something new. On your growth journey, the road might be longer, curvier, and bumpier than expected, but eventually, you will reach your destination. And when you do, you will be better and bolder than before you began.
